Day 18 (31.07.17) Monday

Weather forecast says this week maybe the hottest in Budapest this summer. I remembered I said I wasn’t paying for air conditioning and moreover, our room faces the courtyard so it’s cool but when the weather is about to hit 40°ᶜ and above…. Well I have learnt over and over again that to every rule there are exceptions. Going out of the budget to pay for air conditioner is an accepted exception in this instance.
After I dropped Nimmy and Peace at School, I followed Aunty Margaret (Wendy’s mum) to the usual coffee shop. Dearest Aunty Margaret would always insist on paying for my coffee/frizzy drinks and snacks. Come to think of it, this holiday, I have broken all the rules of healthy eating. God have mercy.
After the early morning ritual of coffee drinking, Aunty Margaret and Sheena (another mum) wanted to go to Vaci so I decided to follow them; holding my little Pepe (Pemmy) we decided to expand our knowledge of Budapest.
As Oxford street is to London so is Vaci to Budapest. It is perhaps the most famous street of central Budapest. It features a large number of restaurants and shops catering primarily to the tourist market.
We walked from one end to another end; window shopping. Later on, we sat at Mc Donald’s to have some refreshment. Before settling down, Pemmy told me she wanted to pee. Now I have gotten used to the fact that if you enter a restaurant and you wish to use the convenience you had better buy a drink or hold your money to pay for the use of their restroom.
When I checked my wristwatch, it was time to go pick Nimmy and Peace. Aunty Margaret and Sheena still wanted to visit some places so I had to go back on my own. That was the first time I would go back to Nimmy’s school alone from a place I was visiting for the first time. I was nervous; what if I entered the wrong train? I could only use whatsapp on my phone and that required wifi; what if I got lost? Well, I had no choice but to find out.
Holding Pemmy closely I boarded the first train to catch another train going to a Szell Kalman where I would board a bus to Nimmy’s school.
When I got to the place I was supposed to board the train to Szell Kalman, rather than standing on the right-hand side, I stayed on the left. I was on the side of the train station that was coming from Szell Kalman and heading for Moricz Zsigmond. As soon as I boarded the train and it moved in the direction of Moricz Zsigmond, I knew I had boarded the wrong train.
I came down at the next train stop. Pemmy looked at me and said, ‘mummy, Pepe is tired; Pepe cannot walk again.’ In another circumstance, I would have taken time to laugh but this was different. I was looking for the zebra crossing so I could cross to the right- hand side but I couldn’t see it. There were two trains at the train stop. One was heading to Szell Kalman and another to Moricz Zsigmond. I wanted to run across the train tracks to catch the train on the right ( looking back now, what was I thinking of or why was I not thinking) Then I told myself to calm down; I looked around me to check what others were doing then I realized that there was a subway, which is an underground passage for pedestrians. I humbly walked down the stairs, came out through the other side and boarded a train to Szell Kalman. Later that day, as I pondered on what took place at that station, I realized that it is very important to get your mind to calm down when you seem to be in a fix because the answer to your problem may just be staring you in the face but you are too agitated to see it.
